Star Wars’ heroines take the spotlight in upcoming animated series

Can’t wait for Star Wars VIII to be released this December? Here’s something that’ll help tide you over until then.

Disney will be releasing an original animated short series called “Forces of Destiny” this coming July 3 via YouTube. The series will be focused on the female leads all Star Wars fans have come to know and love: Princess-turned-General Leia, Rey, Jyn Erso, Padmè Amidala, Ahsoka Tano, Sabine Wren, and more.

“Forces of Destiny” will be narrated by Lupita Nyong’o as Maz Kanata, the character she portrayed in Episode VII. Other actors who will be reprising their roles for the show are Felicity Jones (as Jyn Erso), Daisy Ridley (as Rey), Ashley Eckstein (as Ahsoka Tano), Tiya Sircar (as Sabine Wren), and Catherine Taber (as Padmè Amidala in “The Clone Wars”).

The series will have eight episodes that will each run for three minutes. The animated shorts will explore how the heroines of Star Wars became who they are and the circumstances that helped shape them. Each episode will be released daily on YouTube starting July 3 and will make their television debut on July 9 on Disney Channel.
