Fans celebrate as Ariana Grande makes history with Oscar nomination for her role in ‘Wicked’

From auditionee to “Glinda” to Oscar nominee, fans couldn’t be prouder of singer-songwriter and actress Ariana Grande.

Back in November 2024, fans all over the globe soared with enthusiasm as the Broadway musical Wicked got its own movie adaptation, starring Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda. From exciting behind-the-scenes sneak peeks to dazzling costumes and jaw-dropping sets, the adaptation truly made the musical a global sensation.

On January 23, the Oscars officially announced the 2025 nominees, with Grande earning a nod for Best Supporting Actress.

Grande’s fans and social media users couldn’t contain their excitement over the thrilling news, showering her with praise for her career-defining moments. “The most deservedOur Glinda!” fans tweeted. Another added, “from watching her on Nickelodeon to seeing her get nominated at the Oscars. I’m so proud of you Ariana!”

Grande then took to her social media account to thank the Academy for the recognition, sharing a photo of her younger self.

“Sharing this with tiny ari who sat and studied Judy Garland singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow just before the big, beautiful bubble entered. i’m so proud of you, tiny. thank you again, from the bottom of my heart, for this acknowledgement @theacademy,” she wrote.

The actress also expressed gratitude towards Wicked’s director, Jonathan Murray Chu, and her co-star Cynthia Erivo, who played the role of Elphaba.
