Filipino singer Sofronio Vasquez has been crowned as the winner of season 26 of the singing competition “The Voice” which makes him the first Filipino to ever win the title.
In the two-night finale on December 9 and 10 (and December 10 and 11 in the Philippines), the singer defeated four other finalists in the competition.
He defeated another competitor from Team Bublé, Shye, who came in second place, while Sydney Sterlace of Team Gwen Stefani finished third. Danny Joseph of Team Reba McEntire came in fourth, and Jeremy Beloate of Team Snoop Dogg placed fifth.
Vasquez sang Sia’s “Unstoppable” and “A Million Dreams” from “The Greatest Showman” during the first part of the finals.
For the second part, he and his coach Michael Bublé took the stage together and sang a duet of “Who’s Lovin’ You” by The Jackson 5.
Bublé told Vasquez before he was named the winner of the competition, “My Filipino brother, you are the hope of so many people… it has been such an unbelievable journey to be here with you.”
People then took to social media to congratulate the singer after his historic win in the competition.

Vasquez, who was raised in the Philippines, attributes his love of singing to his father. After his father passed away in 2022, he relocated to the US to pursue a career in music.
During the “The Voice” United States live show, the singer gave an emotionally charged performance of “If I Can Dream” by Elvis Presley before the finals. Additionally, he sang “Every Breath You Take” in a duet with fellow contestant Jeremy Beloate, while Sting, the songwriter, played bass.
Vasquez joined the local singing competition “Tawag ng Tanghalan” prior to his audition on “The Voice”. During the blind auditions, he earned a four-chair turn from the coaches.
