Quirky hotel in Negros Occidental becomes the world’s ‘largest building shaped like a chicken’

Guinness World Records has awarded a hotel in Negros Occidental for its “very unique and equally enormous landmark” architectural design, which resembles a chicken.

The “largest building in the shape of a chicken” title was bestowed upon Campuestohan Highland Resort, situated in the town of Campuestohan, by the world’s authority on record-breaking accomplishments.

The hotel measures 34.931 m (114 ft 7 in) in height, 12.127 m (39 ft 9 in) in width, and 28.172 m (92 ft 5 in) in length, according to Guinness.

Ricardo Cano Gwapo Tan, the project’s mastermind, says that he is a dreamer who aspires to build the unimaginable.

“I had a vision to make something with a wow factor that can really leave a footprint of admiration to the public,” Tan stated.

It took little more than six months to plan and conceptualize. Construction started on June 10, 2023, and by September 8 of this year, the building was finished and achieved a Guinness World Records title.

The said hotel has 15 rooms that can accommodate small or large families or groups where they can relax and unwind.

In terms of the design of the establishment, Tan explains why he choose a rooster stating that “Negros Occidental has a gamefowl industry that employs millions of people in the Philippines. If you look at a rooster, it looks calm and commanding, imposing and strong which reflects the attitude of our people.”

“The rooster can stand against strong winds and can withstand pressure from other roosters an attitude of Negrense people with resilience to recover quickly from any form of difficulties and hardships in life, one trait that their people have in times of crisis and challenges,” he added.

The building’s unusual shape made it difficult to design, particularly since it had to survive frequent typhoons and storms in the area. In spite of this, the project was finished in 456 days.

Tan feels “proud and humbled at the same time” as he is able to put his province and home country to the Guinness World Records.
