BINI Maloi apologizes for reposting a video mocking people with disabilities

BINI member Maloi has issued an apology after reposting a video that seemingly mocked

people with disabilities.

The BINI member has reposted a TikTok video that shows a guy dancing in an exaggerated manner, which can be largely construed as mocking people with disability (PWD).

Under the comment left by Maloi, the TikTok user replied and wrote, “okay te 👍DISCLAIMER!! di na po pang PWD yang steps ha. thanks.”

Upon seeing tweets that called her out for her actions, she took to X (formerly Twitter) to issue an apology for unintentionally hurting anyone. The singer doesn’t seem to be aware that the steps appear to mock people with disabilities.

Her tweet wrote, “Saw the tweets. I am deeply sorry. It will never be my intention to hurt anyone. I respect everyone regardless of who and what they are. I will be more careful next time.”

She ended her post thanking those informing her nicely and wrote, “Thank you to those who educated me nicely. I appreciate you all.”

People took to social media to share their thoughts about the said scenario.

One user wrote, “grateful that maloi acknowledged her mistake and accepted being educated. i hope this becomes an awareness for all of us as well to CONTINUE educating ourselves regarding the pwd community and the battles they face daily.”

“I hope we all learn from this. educating others is never an attack, it’s a call out for them to learn and do better. while the intention might not have been to offend, we must know na [that] PWDs experience these things. they get hurt too. so let’s be kind and understanding,” another user wrote.

A third user wrote, “Tao ini-istan niyo guys, walang taong perfect, leave room for her to grow lalo na di naman niya sinasadya. Please learn of the full context bago kayo mag-iwan ng emotionally charged words. Yes, it’s triggering but you can always choose to be kind [It’s people you’re staning guys, there’s no perfect person, leave room for her to grow especially it was not her intention. Please learn of the full context before leaving emotionally charged words. Yes it’s triggering but you can always choose to be kind].”

This also serves as a good reminder to do a background or context check on everything we see on social media before consuming and reposting them.
