Andrew Garfield responds to the ‘We Live in Time’ viral horse meme

“We Live in Time” actor Andrew Garfield has finally addressed the elephant in the room: The ugly horse on the carousel in the promotional poster for their upcoming movie.

His latest film features him and co-star Florence Pugh portraying a couple whose lives have changed after receiving a cancer diagnosis.

The two actors in the movie appeared to be having a great time on a date on a carousel in the promotional photo, but fans were more distracted by the very thin and slightly insane-looking carousel horse.

This said horse appeared to be photobombing the otherwise adorable picture due to its ridiculous face and positioning within the frame. It’s no surprise that it became a meme.

During the red carpet interview at the Tribeca International Film Festival with Canadian network CTV’s Etalk, Garfield addressed the meme and humorously expressed gratitude for making people aware of the movie.

“Thank you for bringing up the horse,” he stated. “I hadn’t heard from him since our shoot day but I pray he makes an appearance (at the premiere) ‘cause without him, we really are nothing.”

He added, ”Yeah, no one would be aware of this film if it wasn’t for that f—ing horse.”

Pugh recently explained that director John Crowley told her she could wear a wig, but she insisted that she could not do her character justice if she did not shave her head.

“I just stopped him mid-sentence and I was like, ‘John, no one can play a character like this in a movie like this and not do the thing that is needed to be done,’” she stated. “And if you don’t want to do it, I believe that you shouldn’t be doing a story like this.”

We Live in Time premieres on October 11.
