Twitter buzzes over viral restroom photo featuring an LGBTQIA+ inclusive signage

In celebration of Pride Month, a photo of a restroom in Iloilo went viral for its three distinctive signages. ‘Male,’ ‘Female,’ and ‘LGBT/Mayor Calay.’

A user on X (formerly known as Twitter) posted the photo that gained many interactions with the members of the LGBTQIA+ community. The author captioned: “Happy Pride Month, especially to my mayor calay community 🏳️‍🌈”

Mayor Geefre “Calay” Alonsabe was the Vice Mayor of Alimodian, Iloilo, and has been in public service for over 36 years. On an interview, the vice mayor was proud to present himself as part of the LGBTQIA+ community and has a happy love life. Vice Mayor Calay has been in pursuit of equal rights for LGBTQIA+. Many users found the photo inclusive and at the same time, amusing. They have shown appreciation over how strong Vice Mayor Calay’s alliance is.

“I identify as mayor calay,” said a user.

“in a world full of heterosexuals, im proud to be a part of the lgbt/mayor calay community 🙏🏳️‍🌈” another user responded.

“MAYOR BAT KA NAHEADLINE SA CR 😭😭😭” a user replied.

“my new pronouns are LGBT/MAYOR CALAY” another one pulled a joke.

Others were concerned about how low the door was, it was just the perspective from where it was taken.

It was said that the photo was taken by Nikky Alumia Salvill back in 2019 and many Alimodian locals testify to the vice mayor’s service for them. In December 2019, Vice Mayor Calay was also photographed beating up motorcycle mufflers while wearing brown wedges.

As of writing, the post has garnered 21K likes, 3.4K retweets, and quote-retweets.
