Graduation speeches by college graduates often top the stories of every graduation season. However, this year, young learners are also starting to stand out.
A six-year-old kindergarten student from the School of Our Lady of Atocha, Inc. in Alicia, Isabela, has gone viral for delivering a heartfelt message during his moving-up ceremony.
“My kindergarten school year helped me grow braver, smarter, kind-hearted, and more grateful. I really, really enjoyed going to school,” said Maverick Cyrus Velayo.
In this viral video, Maverick’s fluency and eloquence in English impressed not only his teachers and classmates but also a vast number of social media users. He was widely praised for delivering an almost two-minute speech without a script.
“So articulate. A bright future lies ahead,” one user commented.
Another young speaker has received similar admiration online. Four-year-old Lex Niccolo Vasquez is also gaining attention for his graduation speech at a daycare in Barangay Coroconog, San Roque, Northern Samar. Like Maverick, he confidently delivered about a four-minute speech in English without a script.
“I can’t believe I’m moving up. It feels like just yesterday I was learning my ABCs. Time sure does fly when you’re having fun,” the four-year-old student remarked.
He concluded his speech powerfully, saying, “As I look ahead to the future, I know there are endless possibilities waiting for us. We may be small, but we have big dreams and hearts full of curiosity. So, fellow movers, let’s celebrate our accomplishments, our friendship, and the amazing journey we’ve been on together. Here’s to us, the class of 2024. Remember, the future is bright, and you are destined for greatness.”
As of this writing, the video uploaded by Lex’s mother has garnered 1.7 million views.
