Rihanna sets historic record with the most diamond-certified singles by any female artist

Rihanna has now received four more diamond plaques from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), bringing her total to seven diamond certifications.

As of May 31, the RIAA website lists the following songs as diamond-certified: Rih and Jay-Z’s “Umbrella,” the Drake-assisted “Work,” Anti’s “Needed Me,” and 2012’s “Stay.” The news follows the appropriately timed announcement that 2012’s “Diamonds” would likewise go diamond in April.

With seven plaques to her credit, Rihanna currently holds the record for the most diamond-certified singles of any female artist in music history. Roc Nation, her management, congratulated her on this accomplishment.

“Ain’t no back and forth,” Rihanna penned to X, seemingly dismissing her in the process as she reposted the image of her most recent achievements.

The Navy (Rihanna’s fans) showered congratulations on Rihanna’s replies, but they were also quick to point out that it has been eight years since her last full-length album, Anti, and that she still hasn’t delivered R9.

A fan wrote “Congrats rih, I know you don’t ever have to release music again but do us a solid ONE MORE TIME. just that album please.”

When Jay-Z covered “Umbrella” by Good Girl Gone Bad in 2007, the song rose up the charts and gave Rih her second No. 1 spot on the Hot 100. Drake’s song “Work” debuted in January 2016 and quickly shot to the top of the Billboard Hot 100.

On the Hot 100, Unapologetic’s “Stay” peaked at No. 3, while Mustard’s “Needed Me” peaked at No. 7.

Apart from the four recently certified diamonds and the “Diamonds” that were added to the exclusive club last month, Rihanna’s seven-carat diamond collection also includes her 2010 song “Love the Way You Lie” with Eminem (certified on May 9, 2013) and her 2011 song “We Found Love” with Calvin Harris (certified on April 27, 2023).
