An internet user from Tarlac has captured a jeepney driver providing hydration for his passengers, which she posted on Instagram on April 23.
Micaella Nelmida, the original uploader, expressed her gratitude to the driver for his simple yet thoughtful gesture.
“I found it as a kind gesture and sobrang rare po sakin na makakita ng mga jeep na may ganun [it’s rare for me to see jeepneys offering something like that],” Nelmida wrote.
She also shared that the jeepney driver offered it to his passengers from time to time, “Nung nag stop po siya para po magsakay ulit he said “Uminom po kayo, may libreng tubig po tayo jan [When he stopped to pick up passengers again, he invited people to have a drink of his free water.]”
Facebook users applauded the kind gesture of the driver and for doing what he can to help the members of his community throughout this weather crisis, with some lauding the generosity of the driver even though they’re the ones who are sometimes financially in need. It is also a welcome hydration mode for passengers as jeepneys are not commonly enclosed with air conditioning.
Jeepney drivers still face a significant obstacle due to the ongoing Jeepney Phaseout Crisis. The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has strictly enforced an April 30 deadline, which marks its eighth extension.
