Seunghan’s participation in RIIZE’s future activities causes unrest in fandom

SM Entertainment’s rookie boy group RIIZE has surely been making waves in the K-Pop industry since their debut, and they don’t show any signs of stopping any time soon.

On April 3, 2024, SM Entertainment and RIIZE announced that they will finally be releasing their debut mini album, ‘RIIZING’ in June this year and dropped a schedule poster outlining their upcoming activities.

Beginning with the “surprise” release of their pre-debut (and obviously the fan favorite) track, “Siren,” which was released on the same day as the scheduler, BRIIZE will be bombarded with a whole lot of content from April till June.

On April 19 and April 29, 2024, in particular, RIIZE will be dropping their EP’s Prologue Single and B-Sides, titled “Impossible,” “9 Days,” “Honestly,” and “One Kiss” respectively. In May, RIIZE will begin their “RIIZING Day” fan-concert world tour, with shows in South Korea, Asia, and U.S.A.

Prior to the release of the track “Siren,” fans have been sincerely (and quite desperately) hoping for member Seunghan’s participation. Seunghan has been inactive since November 2023, following a non-controversy about his private life.

BRIIZE has been vocal about how the “issue” surrounding Seunghan’s private life could be considered as an “invasion of privacy,” as photos of his trainee days were leaked on the Internet even before his debut. At the time his indefinite hiatus was announced, SM Entertainment expressed that they would be taking legal action against those who spread and leaked images from Seunghan’s private life, but has not updated on it since.

Days ago, on March 29, 2024, Seunghan was spotted reading the notes on a billboard sign set up by fans in the South Korean subway. Fans were emotional to see him reading all the notes dedicated to him, and were even hoping that it would make him feel better amidst all the controversies surrounding him.

On the day of the song’s release, BRIIZE were still hopeful to hear Seunghan’s voice on the track, but were met with great disappointment after not hearing his voice on it. Fans are rightfully angry for this erasure, as the track was what had introduced RIIZE to the world.

They have even started hashtags like ‘#SIRENwithSEUNGHAN’ and ‘SirenWithSeunghanOrSilence’ and called for a boycott of all of RIIZE’s content unless SM Entertainment issues a statement.
