Instagram shop for 2nd hand digicams ends week 1 of January as Filo Twitter’s newest tea source

2024 has already blessed us on Filipino X (or Twitter) with so much tea that we just had to chronicle it. Yes, this is also proof that we’ve been chronically online too. We don’t hide that fact—we say it loud and proud. Emz.

Accompanying the two other articles about the tea for the first week of January 2024, here comes the other one—involving the sale of a Canon Digital Camera and another Instagram shop owned by a…wait for it…possibly a rich kid feeding off mommy or daddy’s pockets.

Yes, we all know who we’re talking about here and they need no mentioning.

A Tweet on X with screenshots of the Instagram shop starting a new collection with pricing starting from PHP149, and the next one being a pic of one of their products being sold for more than half the said PHP149 turned viral on January 4, 2024.

As of writing, the viral post has 158 comments, 4.1k reposts, 12k likes, and 5.9M views.

People on the internet were quick to comment on the outrageousness of the pricing.

And on January 5, 2024, the owner of the Instagram shop uploaded statements addressing (1) The PHP149 sale and (2) their pricing.

In their first statement, they clarified that “not all their items are priced at 149 pesos; it starts at 149 and may go up.” They also mentioned that the PHP149 sale was a “token of appreciation for support,” even though they purchased the cameras for thousands of pesos.

They also added, “As resellers, it’s uncommon to find a camera worth 149 pesos, buy 1 take 1, even if defective,” and that all sellers are aware of that fact. They ended the first statement by saying that they were grateful for the loyal customers and that if any misunderstandings persist, they will reconsider their promotions.

As for the second statement, they firmly detailed their reasoning for their pricing and that it “never crossed their minds” that they had to post a statement about it.

For their first reason, they said that what they were selling are “well-curated cameras,” meaning that they “took their time checking these items are DISCONTINUED” a.k.a. the cameras they’re selling can’t be found in malls and because the brands have stopped producing them.

They also reasoned that they “personally source them everyday and not just from your said shops like Escolta, Binondo, etc.,” and that they even fly to Japan and Thailand just to get them and that “it is NOT CHEAP.” They also said, “Remember that DIGICAM IS IN DEMAND and as resellers we do not get them for as low as you think of.”

The Instagram shop also said that they do not take their business lightly, and that they spend money every day for their flatlays and designs. They also added, “We do not appreciate the comments saying that we just put stickers on our cameras and just price it because we know that we do so much more than that.”

They ended the second statement by reiterating that they are resellers and that this is a business. “We are not forcing anyone to buy our products but if you decide to do so then we are beyond grateful and we promise that we will serve our customers better in the near future.”

After posting that statement, not a lot of people were happy about it and decided to “bully” them even more.
