In anticipation of ‘The Eras Tour’ stop in Santa Clara, California, Taylor Swift has been given another honorary title in the city.
Their mayor, Lisa Gillmor, has changed the name of Santa Clara to ‘Swiftie Clara’ – in honor of the songwriter and her global fan base. The mayor also gave her a temporary honorary title as mayor of the city.
“We’re thrilled to host an artist whose devotion to music and empowerment sets such a positive example for so many people of all ages in the world and that’s why we’re doing this,” said Gillmor at a town hall meeting.
“Taylor Swift is coming to Santa Clara for the third time and this time we wanted to honor her in a respectful way, so we had a proclamation and [showed] our Swiftie spirit on the Eras tour,” the ‘original’mayor told NBC Bay Area.
“So get ready to see sparks fly as the crowds in the stands went wild and to shake it off while being a part of an unforgettable experience at Levi’s Stadium, Sparks Fly, Long Live, and Shake It Off,” she added, referencing the singer’s songs.
This is not the first time that Swift has been honored with a city or place name change in anticipation of her tour stops. Just last March, Glendale also temporarily changed its name in honor of ‘The Eras’ tour. Last month, the city of Pittsburgh was renamed ‘Swiftsburg’ while Minneapolis was renamed ‘Swiftieapolis.’ The latter city’s mayor even declared the date of the tour stops there as ‘Taylor Swift Day.’
“We are embarking on what will be one of the most exciting weekends we have in the city of Minneapolis!” said Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey.
Also in Kansas, as anticipation for ‘The Eras Tour’ stops there, an already-existing street would be added a ‘Taylor’s Version’ tagline, as an honor for the singer-songwriter’s decision in 2019 to re-record some of her albums following a dispute with her previous record label according to some officials there.
