Chinese Influencer dies after trying to lose 100kg at a high-intensity weight-loss boot camp

A 21-year-old Chinese social media influencer died on the second day of attending an intensive weight-loss boot camp in northwestern China.

The influencer, who goes by the name Cuihua, who is from Henan, central China, was found dead during a workout regime on May 27, but her cause of death was not revealed.

According to a report, Cuihua shares her weight-loss journey on Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, with the goal of encouraging others in their fight against obesity.

The influencer had been posting various videos showing herself undergoing intensive training exercises to lose 100 kilograms from her current weight of 156 kilograms.

Cuihua was said to have lost 27 kilograms two months before her untimely death – she is said to have joined different weight-loss camps in various cities to reach her goal and was in a camp in Shaanxi province two days before she was pronounced dead, as China National Radio reported.

She is said to have limited her diet while undergoing intense exercise despite the camp promoting “nutritious meals, rest, and healthy exercise.”

Cuihua’s family had received “compensation” from the weight-loss camp and local authorities are now investigating what happened to the influencer, including the management of the weight-loss camp conducting the training.
