If Catholic Filipinos honor the 40th day after a loved one’s death, Buddhists (regardless of whatever country they are in) commemorate the 49th day following their death. In their tradition, it is believed that a spirit lingers in the realm of the dead for 49 days before truly moving on, and is the end of their formal mourning period.
On June 4, 2023, 2 days before the end of the mourning period for Moonbin, ASTRO’s agency Fantagio shared that they have organized a new memorial space for the departed artist at Gukcheongsa Temple.
And on June 6, 2023, ASTRO’s Sanha, VIVIZ’s SinB, SEVENTEEN’s Seungkwan, and Billlie’s Moon Sua all commemorated and honored the memory of ASTRO’s Moonbin in their own ways.
SEVENTEEN’s Seungkwan was reported to have visited Moonbin’s memorial at the Fantagio Entertainment office building’s sky park before it was to be moved to a temple, and he had left a letter that touched fans’ hearts and may have brought some to tears. In the letter, Seungkwan said that he had been taking care of Moonbin’s sister Sua, his parents, and his aunts, and that he attended Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon’s concert and received a lot of comfort there—this revealed that he and Moonbin were supposed to attend the concert together.
Seungkwan also said that Moonbin’s fans had also brought him comfort, and that they had reminded him of Moonbin himself.
ASTRO’s Sanha, who Moonbin shared a sub-unit with, also posted a number of photos and videos of him and Moonbin on his Instagram.

His caption reads,
“Hyung, farewell.
It’s time to let you go.
Let’s meet again for sure next time, okay?
Even then, let’s hold each other tight.
Thanks to you, I was happy. Eat well, and live well.
I love you so much.”
VIVIZ’s SinB, who was one of Moonbin’s childhood friends, posted a photo of the two of them on her Instagram as well.
On June 7, 2023, Moonbin’s younger sister and Billlie member Moon Sua updated her Instagram for the first time since her brother’s passing—with a video of her and Moonbin in the practice room.
Her message reads,
“Of course, Mr. Moon’s door-sized back was so wide and so warm. I should’ve asked him to give me more piggyback rides. Next time we meet, please carry me on your back more often.
My one and only older brother. I still love you, and I won’t ever forget you. Forever and ever, I’m going to keep loving you. No more pain, stay healthy, eat well, and be happy.”
Rest in peace, Moonbin. Everyone you’ve touched with your music will definitely remember the beautiful person that you are, and how much you inspire them to keep going every day.
