Dagny ushers in a new era with soaring new single ‘Heartbreak in the Making’

Norwegian pop sensation Dagny has shared her new single “Heartbreak In The Making,” ushering in a new era for the Tromsø born musician; the first taste of the follow up to her critically acclaimed 2020 debut album Strangers / Lovers. The new single arrives ahead of her mainstage slot at this year’s Mighty Hoopla Festival on Sunday 4th June alongside Years & Years, Jake Shears, Róisín Murphy and Confidence Man.

Highlighting her reckless streak – by her own admission – “Heartbreak In The Making” – co-written with Oliver Lundström (Carly Rae Jepsen) and Maria Hazell (Mabel, ALMA), is a slice of indie-pop perfection. “I’m giving in when I know how it ends / You feel like a heartbreak in the making” Dagny sings in the track’s chorus, as she explores the impulsive side of her personality to a backdrop of psych-tinged guitar passages, pulsating drums and soaring harmonies.

Speaking on the lyrical inspiration behind “Heartbreak In The Making,” Dagny said: “Heartbreak In The Making is essentially about diving into something, even though you have that gut feeling that it’s never going to end well. It’s a bit like the first tequila shot at a bar; you know where the night is headed, but you do it anyway.”

Tromsø, Norway born Dagny Norvoll Sandvik is an irrepressible pop force. To date, Dagny’s music has been streamed over a billion times, she’s been nominated for 6 Norwegian Grammy’s (Spellemannprisen), co-written songs for Katy Perry, Ashnikko, and Julie Bergan, and collaborated with acts including Liverpool indie-rock heroes The Wombats, American super-producer Steve Aoki, fellow Norwegian powerhouses Kygo, Astrid S and Seeb, and Spanish-English indie-pop outfit Crystal Fighters.

Dagny’s debut album Strangers / Lovers, released in May 2020 proved her credentials, spawning hit single “Somebody” with over 80 million streams on Spotify alone, with high praise coming in for the album from The Guardian (“thundering synthpop explosion”), The Independent (“dazzling pop – 8/10”), BBC Music (“one of 2020’s most assured debuts”), The Metro (“sleak, neat set of bops – Albums Of The Week”) and more.

2022 saw Dagny embark on a sold-out Norwegian tour that lasted for over two months, selling over 16,000 tickets in the process, followed by 3 sold out headline shows in London, Berlin and Amsterdam, amidst a busy summer of Norway festivals – most notably a prestigious slot on the main stage at Norway’s biggest summer festival Øyafestivalen.

Dagny’s new single “Heartbreak In The Making” is out now via Little Daggers Records. Dagny performs on the mainstage of Mighty Hoopla on 4th June, with further UK dates and Norwegian festival appearances throughout the summer.
