Taylor Swift fans troll Emma Laird after posting a photo of Joe Alwyn amid breakup

Uh-oh! Looks like some Swifties are looking for someone to blame for the Taylor Swift-Joe Alwyn breakup, and Scottish actress Emma Laird is catching fans’ attention.

Earlier this month, Swiftie’s world was shaken after it was revealed that Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn had broken up after being together for six seemingly blissful years.

Multiple reports have shared that sources close to the Grammy Award-winning couple said that their split was “not dramatic” as “they just grew apart” and the relationship “had just run its course.”

Despite being no longer together, the two are still reportedly “friendly” with each other.

The couple’s fans, especially Swifties, were devastated and shocked upon hearing the news. Even though the former couple has yet to address the news themselves, Swifties confirmed the split after Swift switched “invisible string” to “the 1,” a breakup song, in her setlist during “The Eras Tour.”

While most Swifties were heartbroken and accepted the news of the couple’s split, others were speculating that there was more to the breakup than what hit the news, and they’re now turning their attention to In Conversation with a Goddess star Emma Laird, Alwyn’s fellow actor in the upcoming drama film The Brutalist.

On April 19, Laird shared on her Instagram account a carousel of photos from the set of The Brutalist, calling it: “Moments in March.”

One of the snaps included in the photo dump was an image of Alwyn smiling and riding a scooter.

This has made some Swifties’ eyebrows rise as the scooter featured in Alwyn’s photo resembled the one featured in Laird’s post back in January 2023.

Since then, some Swifties have viciously trolled Laird and left hate comments in the post, which prompted the Scottish actress to turn off the comments section.

However, they didn’t stop as they flooded Laird’s post with comments accusing the actress of being involved in the split. Others have left snake emojis and wrote lyrics from Swift’s song, “Better Than Revenge,” a diss track from her third album “Speak Now.”

Some even went on to harass Laird outside Instagram as some Swifties on Twitter, TikTok, and Reddit continued to accuse the actress.

On the other hand, most Swifties came into Laird’s defense and called out their fellow fans for harassing Laird online. They also said that the bullying and hate were uncalled for and Swift would not tolerate and support such “disgusting” behaviors. Others have also pointed out that the behavior towards Laird is “sexist.”

As of this writing, Laird has yet to address the backlash she received from Swifties and continued to post on her Instagram story. Both Alwyn and Swift have also not yet commented on the breakup and the criticism.

Alwyn and Swift have been reportedly linked in 2016 and the two have kept a low-profile relationship. The former couple have even written songs together as evidenced in Swift’s albums “folklore,” “evermore,” and “Midnights.”

Since calling it quits, Swift continues touring across the United States for her “The Eras Tour” and has been spotted out and about with friends.

Meanwhile, Alwyn is said to be busy filming in Hungary for the Brady Corbet-directed film The Brutalist, which also starred Adrien Brody, Felicity Jones, Marion Cotillard, and Guy Pearce.
