Help build a society that embraces inclusivity by joining DLSU MaFIA’s One MaFIAmily flagship event

One of the top organizations in De La Salle University (DLSU) that cater to Finance students is committed to making money work not just by honing students’ financial management and leadership skills but also inculcating the Lasallian core values by raising funds to create positive social impact through the event One MaFIAmily, a yearlong donation drive that aims to help their chosen partner community.

The Management of Financial Institutions Association (MaFIA) is a duly recognized professional student organization of De La Salle University-Manila. With hundreds of members, MaFIA believes in nurturing the talent of its members by opening opportunities that would develop the best version of themselves through personal development, academic excellence, social awareness, and leadership seminars and workshops.

DLSU MaFIA One MaFIAmilyOne MaFIAmily is spreading love and taking a step closer to a more inclusive future by empowering senior LGBTQIA+ members as the organization transforms rainbows into gold through various fundraising activities at one of their most anticipated flagship events this year. One MaFIAmily envisions taking meaningful initiatives and inspiring other organizations by providing a helping hand for the needs of the community. DLSU MaFIA shows their commitment to upholding One MaFIAmily’s mission of providing an avenue that will raise awareness and funds through different activities and partnerships that will be able to help the underprivileged communities and give them light for the future through the said event.

Fighting for inclusivity, One MaFIAmily, on its third installment, strives to educate and enlighten the public about the LGBTQIA+ community in its first ever hybrid set-up (seminar and webinar). The hybrid event aims to raise awareness of the prejudice that LGBTQIA+ individuals encounter in the workplace and in their daily lives. It intends to help students comprehend the laws and bills created to address the problems that the LGBTQ+ community experiences and empathize with the struggles of the LGBTQIA+ community as they grow older. In light of this, they invited three (3) speakers for the hybrid event on LGBTQIA+ in Society and Aging with Pride, specifically Republic Acts and Laws for the LGBTQIA+ community, Gender and Age Sensitivity in the Workplace, and personal experiences as part of the LGBTQIA+ community.

The first speaker is Mr. Romeo Romero, a graduate of University of the Philippines – Diliman with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering. His recruitment experience extends across APAC, until he joined Canva to expand their Customer Happiness Team for a year. Now, he has progressed into his new role of Pathways Partner to become the Subject Matter Expert for all things internal mobility at the Canva Philippine Campus. On the other hand, the second speaker is Home for the Golden Gay’s President Ramon Busa, a graduate of Columban College in Olongapo City, Zambales, with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Major in Marketing. He is the president of the Home for the Indigent Gay Men, Inc., also known as the Golden Gays of Manila, the partner beneficiary for this year’s One MaFIAmily. Last but not least, the third speaker is Attorney Claire De Leon, a lawyer working on gender equality and human rights. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, cum laude, and Juris Doctor degree, both from the University of the Philippines. She has been involved in LGBTQI advocacies for 10 years, previously serving as Executive Director of Babaylanes and as Secretary-General of Lagablab LGBT Network.

Thus, through One MaFIAmily, the organization hopes to inspire De La Salle University students to be catalysts for change. One MaFIAmily: It Starts with YOUth, Rainbows Lead to Gold will be held on April 1, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 5:30 PM at Enrique Yuchengco Hall Room 507-509, De La Salle University-Manila and Private DLSU Facebook Livestream Group. This event will be free of charge.
