We’re all getting old: Upin & Ipin both have hair now

Remember when we used to watch 2 bald Malaysians twins over at Disney Channel when we were younger? And now they’ve just grown a head full of hair?

What an unexpected surprise, to be honest.

“Upin & Ipin” is a Malaysian animated television series that follows the everyday lives of the twins (Upin & Ipin) and their friends in their village Kampung Durian Runtuh. Originally introduced as a six-episode Ramadan/Hari Raya Eid-al-Fitr special back in 2007, the show is now the longest-running animated series of Malaysia, with it being on its 16th year of production as of 2023.

Its third season titled “Upin, Ipin, and Friends”, debuted on Disney Channel Asia in 2009, which brought the Malaysian series to the TV screens of many Filipino families. Many might still remember the children’s morning greetings in class (A very good morning, teacher!), or Ipin’s “true, true, true”, which may have cemented the show in the memories of viewers.

But now, apparently the famous twins Upin & Ipin now have outgrown their baldness (and that one strand from Ipin) and have heads full of hair. According to a screenshot of one of their episodes in Season 14, which shows them in their school uniforms and a full head.

Filipinos who have watched the show in the past (and have now grown up) are surprised to see the two twins with hair. Their trademark, tbh, was their baldness lmao.

I mean, we’re in Season 14 of this series so them having hair kinda makes sense. It’s also not uncommon for children’s shows to get an updated look, casting, or storyline as they age in broadcast–we’ve seen them in Teletubbies, Peppa Pig, and even Blues Clues. But what this tells us is darnnnn we’re getting old! Who would’ve thought they’d actually grow hair in the series when other TV series don’t even let their characters age.
