Super Junior’s Heechul apologizes for his controversial remarks during live broadcast

Kim Heechul of Super Junior was recently embroiled in a controversy after his participation in a live broadcast last February 9, 2023.

The Super Junior member joined BJ (broadcasting jockey) Choi’s live broadcast on AfreecaTV, whilst enjoying alcoholic drinks. In the broadcast, the SuJu member defended his former group member Kangin, who was involved in a DUI case in 2009 and an assault case in 2017. Heechul also swore on live broadcast while they were discussing school violence and a specific online community, which viewers did not take kindly to.

Heechul took to his Instagram on February 13, 2023, to apologize for his remarks.

“Regardless of the right or wrong of my thoughts, I apologize for exaggeratively using profanity and vulgar expressions and for portraying double standards.

I am most sorry to the fans who were hurt by the controversy I made once again. This will be the last time this happens, and I will try my best not to be involved in any controversy in the future.

However, no matter how much I reflect [on my remarks], I don’t think it’s wrong to swear at school violence [perpetrators] and certain sites.

Thank you.”

The entire community had mixed feelings towards the issue, while some applauded the idol-host for apologizing and still sticking up for his own beliefs, some were still on the fence over it and were against what he did and said.
