Carl from ‘Up’ seems set to enter the modern dating scene!
Premiering on February 10, Disney’s short film ‘Dug Days: Carl’s Date’ follows Carl Fredricksen, the protagonist from the 2009 animated film, ‘Up,’ as he goes on his first-ever date after the demise of his beloved wife, Ellie.
The short film that features the old widow will be a part of ‘Dug Days,’ a short animated series written by Bob Peterson who is the voice behind the lovable and cute golden retriever ‘Dug,’ also from ‘Up.’ The series, which first aired in late 2021, revolves around Dug and his new owner, voiced by Ed Asner, and the ‘Wilderness Explorer ‘extraordinaire Russell, given life by Jordan Nagai.
Dug and Carl’s friendship is indeed one of a kind. The latter sees Dug as his loyal four-legged best friend, while Dug sees him as a father figure and calls him ‘Poppa’. As the two start their adventure together, Carl shows unconditional love and patience to the precious retriever like his own child.
The five-episode short film series ‘Carl’s Date’ will focus on another aspect of Carl’s meaningful journey inife. After the death of his wife Ellie, he is now ready to open his heart and fall in love again. Since it will tackle the heart-wrenching theme of losing a loved one, this is poised to be the most dramatic episode of the series. Despite this, fans are hoping that he will be able to find his new love.
In the film ‘Up,’ Carl’s back story tells of a shy boy who is a fan of a famous explorer named Charles F. Muntz. He then befriended Ellie, who happens to be Muntz’s fan as well. Carl and Ellie eventually got married and grew old together as balloon salesman and zookeeper respectively. They hoped to have children, but Ellie was diagnosed as infertile. While planning their Paris Falls trip, Ellie acquired an illness and eventually passed away. Because of this, Carl becomes bitter about life.
After so many years, will new love bloom as Carl tries his luck at dating again?
