Kate Moss’ sister Lottie Moss faces backlash after nepotism comment

If you’ve been scrolling too much on your news feed, you probably saw that the internet is ablaze with nepotism discourse. The discussion even became more heated when New York Magazine revealed its cover story, which provided an “exhaustive” list of nepo babies in Hollywood.

“Nepo babies. We love them, we hate them, we disrespect them, we’re obsessed with them,” the magazine’s official account said in an Instagram post. “In our latest issue, we put together an exhaustive accounting of the actors, rock stars, models, directors, producers, influencers, writers, and insiders who just happen to be the children of…actors, rock stars, models, directors, producers, influencers, writers, and insiders.”

The now-viral cover story featured the likes of Dakota Johnson, Lily-Rose Depp, Ben Platt, Maude Apatow, John David Washington, Zoe Kravitz, and more, who are all born to famous parents.

While many lauded the cover story, some people aren’t having it and defending nepotism. Some nepo babies themselves are also sharing their thoughts and clapping back at the critics, including supermodel Kate Moss’ half-sister, Lottie Moss.

Recently, Lottie took to her now-deleted Twitter account her views about nepotism, saying how she’s fed up with people “blaming nepotism for why they aren’t rich and famous or successful.”

In a tweet, she wrote: “Obviously it’s not fair that people who come from famous families are getting a leg up because of that but guess what? Life isn’t fair – if you put your mind to something you can accomplish anything!”

“So, instead of being negative about other people’s success, go and try and create your own,” she added.

Her hot take on nepotism has caught the attention of people on Twitter, immediately receiving backlash and sassy comments.

Shortly after, Lottie posted a series of tweets where she acknowledged the opportunities and privileges of being related to her half-sister, Kate.

“I obviously am so grateful that I have had the opportunities I’ve had; don’t get it twisted. Obviously, I’m privileged to be related to a huge model also. And [I] am privileged for numerous other reasons, and as I say, I’m grateful for it all,” Lottie wrote. “But shitting on others because of it [nepotism] makes no sense.”

After the whole debacle, Lottie’s Twitter account was reportedly deleted, and in true Twitter fashion, some even memefied how they drove the younger model off Twitter.

Lottie’s comment about nepotism comes right after she posted her reflection about the events that had transpired over the past year. In an Instagram post, Lottie seemed to also hint that her sister never supported her.

“I understand that I have come from a very privileged position being the sister of someone very famous, but believe it or not, that person never really supported me,” Lottie wrote. She then explained that while her parents have been amazing to her, she felt they couldn’t relate to her.

“I was pretty much on my own so I had to navigate this by myself and do the best I could, which I feel I have,” she stated.

This wasn’t the first time that Lottie candidly opened up about her struggles with being connected to a famous family.

In a 2021 interview, Lottie opened up about her struggles with being connected to a famous relative. Speaking to Jamie Laing in his podcast, Private Parts, Lottie shared that she felt her jobs were being handed to her because of her connection to Kate.

“It’s hard when your sister is Kate Moss,” Lottie said. “I kind of always had everything handed to me, like jobs and everything through Kate. I never felt like I worked for anything.”

Lottie made her debut as a model in 2014 after signing with Storm Management. She was previously featured in Dazed magazine, Teen Vogue, an ad for Calvin Klein, and Paris Vogue.
