Finalists for the 2022 Filipino Readers’ Choice Awards (FRCA), an online popular choice awards revived this year by the Book Development Association of the Philippines (BDAP), have been announced! This is after the close of the four-week online voting period last October 2, where a total of 104,795 valid votes from readers were counted. There are 15 categories in this year’s FRCA, with two batches covering books published in 2015-2018 (Batch 1) and 2019-2021 (Batch 2). Finalists are the top three titles in each batch and category. There were a total of over 1,500 books nominated for this year’s awards.
The list of finalists is published on the FRCA’s Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter accounts.
“It was overwhelming, seeing all the votes and the readers actively campaigning for their favorite authors,” says Honey de Peralta, BDAP trustee and head of this year’s FRCA committee. The committee also released a Readership Snapshot in mid-September, showing that as of then, the largest percentage of voters (41%) came from the age 18-24 cohort, and a whopping 72% of voters identified as female.
At this point, the FRCA will start with the judging period. The finalists will be deliberated upon by a panel composed of members of various Filipino book groups, book reviewers, and reading communities, until a winner is determined.
The judging period will last from mid-October to mid-November. Winners of the FRCA 2022 will be announced during BDAP’s Philippine Book Fair in Baguio, on Dec. 1-3 (final date to be determined).
