‘Arcane’ makes history at the Emmys for winning Outstanding Animated Program award

The hit animated action-adventure series Arcane has become the first streaming show to win Outstanding Animated Program at the 74th Emmy Awards Ceremony.

The League of Legends series adaptation beat other well-known animated shows in the category such as Bob’s Burgers, Rick and Morty, The Simpsons, and Marvel’s What If…?.

Arcane co-creator Christian Linke was in attendance to receive the Emmy award and thanked their supporters.

“Thank you for this. It’s a big deal for us as we come from video games. It’s been amazing to see the world embrace our characters and our stories so thanks to Netflix who believed in us from the beginning, thanks to Riot Games, who worked on the whole IP… and to all the people that have been with our game and League of Legends for the last 12 years or so who helped make it as big as it is now,” he said.

Cast member, Hailee Steinfeld, who plays the voice of Vi in the show, took to Twitter to celebrate the win with the creators.

The series was released in November 2021 and in partnership with Riot Games was animated by Fortiche Productions. It features voice performances from Hailee Steinfeld, Kevin Alejandro, Katie Leung, Jason Spisak, Toks Olagundoye, JB Blanc, and Harry Lloyd.

It follows the origins of League champions Jinx and Vi as the siblings seek to reunite as the violence and chaos in the world of Arcane keeps them apart.

Riot Games also released a limited documentary series about the making of the show called Arcane: Bridging the Rift where they show what went down behind the scenes of animating the show.

The win also comes after a second season was announced recently although no official release date was mentioned.
