A fresh start: These four Korean acts are making history with their Pinoy fans

It’s no secret how much Filipino fans have missed seeing their favorite Korean artists live. Amidst the scramble to collect photocards and make it to online video call events, there are quiet echoes of “I miss watching concerts!” and “When are fan meetings coming back?” in various corners of the web.

Well, fans are in for a treat this summer as four South Korean acts are coming to Manila for a concert. NCT DREAM, SHINee’s KEY, WEi, and ALICE are set to perform their biggest hits live at “Begin Again: KPOP Edition” happening on May 29, 2022, 5 PM at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Aptly named “Begin Again,” this historic event marks the first international concert in the country after two years. The artists have come together to meet their beloved fans face to face, after years of purely online interactions. There’s bound to be a lot of excitement and most notably, happy tears, as idol and fan meet again. Most importantly, it’s an avenue for artists to cheer on their fans during these difficult times.

Begin Again Pinoy

To add to the thrill, “Begin Again” checks off a couple of hallmark moments for the artists. For instance, NCT DREAM is coming back to “open the doors” of international live shows after being the last one to hold it in 2020. Meanwhile, it is KEY’s first time back to the Philippines. This time, he is performing as a solo artist. His last visit was in 2017 with his group at a benefit concert.

Alternatively, ALICE gets to meet their Pinoy fans again with more members than the last time they were here. Formerly known as ELRIS, the group has added two new members and has since rebranded to its new name. Finally, WEi sets its sights on Filipino RUi for the first time. Having debuted during a pandemic, the six-member boy group didn’t have many opportunities to meet its international fans.

All four groups are fresh off the release of their latest work. NCT DREAM successfully wrapped their “Glitch Mode” era with two million albums sold. This comeback also marked their first entry on the Billboard 200 Chart at number 50, proving their popularity on the international scene.

Meanwhile, SHINee’s KEY debuted as a solo artist in 2018 and has since released multiple albums with “Bad Love” being the latest. The mini-album came out in September of last year and had six tracks, including the titular single. It earned KEY his first music show win along with a number of critical acclaim including the third spot at NME’s “The 25 best K-pop songs of 2021.”

Despite being only two years old, boy group WEi is also a force to be reckoned with. Members DAE HYEON, DONG HAN, YONG HA, YO HAN, SEOK HWA, and JUN SEO recently released their mini-album “Love Pt.1: First Love,” last March and are drawing the attention of fans across the world. The album earned them the fifth spot on Korea’s Gaon Chart.

Finally, girl group ALICE released their latest single “Power of Love” last May 4, 2022. Members EJ, Do-A, Chaejeong, Yeonjae, Yukyung, Sohee, and Karin lent their beautiful voices to this emotional ballad. It sings of longing for a distant loved one but never losing faith in their connection—the perfect song for these tumultuous times.

Catch these four talented artists live at “Begin Again: KPOP Edition.”
