Where The Crawdads Sing is a book I got absolutely lost in when I read it years ago. As soon as I heard there was a film in the works starring the incredible @daisyedgarjones and produced by the brilliant @reesewitherspoon, I knew I wanted to be part of it from the musical side,” Swift wrote in her Instagram post.

According to the singer, Carolina is a song she wrote herself, with help from Aaron Dessner in producing it. “I wanted to create something haunting and ethereal to match this mesmerizing story,” she wrote on Instagram. The trailer only previews a piece of the song but Swift promised that her fans would be able to listen to the full track soon.

Meanwhile, Daisy Edgar-Jones will be portraying Kya Clark. “I fell so deeply in love with the world that Delia created, she has such a poetry to her writing. And her characters are so incredibly special, and deep and complex–particularly Kya, of course,” Edgar-Jones said in a video posted on the film’s official Instagram account. “I would describe Kya as fiercely resilient, wonderfully curious and strong. And I just feel so privileged and excited to be playing her.”

Where The Crawdads Sing is a film adaptation of the 2018 bestselling novel of the same name by Delia Owens. The film is directed by Olivia Newman, and produced by Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter. It is set to premiere on July 15.

The novel’s story is about a young woman named Kya Clark who, after being abandoned by her family as a child, learns to look after herself while living in the marshes of South Carolina. With years of rumor about the “Marsh Girl” that haunts the fictional small town of Barkley Cove, Kya is left mistreated by those around her. When she grew up she found herself involved with two men from the town. One of the two ends up dead, and Kya is immediately framed as the initial suspect. As the case unfolds, it also reveals many secrets that lie within the marsh.
