Reggae band sues Dua Lipa for allegedly plagiarizing the song ‘Levitating’

No one can’t resist bobbing their head once they hear Dua Lipa’s ‘Levitating’ blasting on speakers. That’s a fact. We cannot deny the famous pop singer’s consistent rise to stardom, thanks to her steady string of billboard hits.  In her most recent album, Future Nostalgia, ‘Levitating’ had permeated almost everyone’s ‘most listened to’ playlist because of how catchy it is. But the fun might be temporarily on hold for the 26-year-old singer as she is currently facing a lawsuit for allegedly plagiarizing the said smash hit.

In a Billboard report, On March 1, Artikal Sound System, a reggae band that’s based in Florida, sued the singer for allegedly stealing their song ‘Live Your Life’ that was released in 2017.

The band stated that both tracks were very much alike and that it’s “most unlikely that ‘Levitating’ was created independently.” The filed lawsuit had little information regarding how the pop singer presumably plagiarized the song.

The Florida-based band also claim that Dua Lipa and her team had “listened to and copied” their song ‘Live Your Life’ before and during the time that “Levitating” was being written.

Here’s what people on Twitter had to say about the matter:

The reggae band Artikal Sound System was formed in 2012. They released ‘Live Your Life’ in 2017 as part of their EP ‘Smoke and Mirrors.’ Dua Lipa’s ‘Levitating’ is included in the singer’s ‘Future Nostalgia’ album and was released in April 2020. The song stayed in multiple high-ranking spots in the Billboard charts and was certified four-times platinum with over four million copies sold in the US.

The pop singer has yet to comment and release a statement on the ongoing issue.
