Chubby squirrel gets stuck in a manhole — now on a diet

A red squirrel is currently in recovery after getting stuck halfway through a manhole cover because of his fat ass in Munich, Germany.

In a cartoon-like effort, rescuers attempted to free the squirrel by covering him in olive oil, but the animal’s huge butt prevented him from squeezing himself out of the manhole.

Animal rescue services finally freed the hapless critter by lifting the manhole cover and easing him the other way round: through his head.

City locals soon dubbed the squirrel Olivio, after his oily struggle.

Exhausted from the harrowing ordeal, Olivio was wrapped in a warm towel and fed glucose, according to a local report.

Olivio was then brought to a local animal shelter. The staff reported he’s doing well and has since moved on to a diet of Christmas nuts.

“He was almost dead. Now he is eating a lot and sleeps all the time,” Sabine Gallenberger from the Squirrel Protection Association told German reporters.

Yes, you read that right. Germany has a Squirrel Protection Association.

We wish you a speedy recovery, Olivio!
