Theo James back as the vampire in “Underworld: Blood Wars”

UW5-TJames-BJames

British hunk Theo James (the “Divergent” franchise) returns as Vampire David in Columbia Pictures’ “Underworld: Blood Wars,” the latest installment in the blockbuster franchise.

The character David was introduced in “Underworld: Awakening” in which he has been searching for Vampire death dealer Selene (Katen Beckinsale), whose reputation has inspired him to want to fight back against human aggression.

In “Underworld: Blood Wars,” David and his father Thomas (Charles Dance) are Selene’s only remaining allies as she fends off brutal attacks from both the Lycan clan and the Vampire faction that betrayed her.

Reprising his role that launched his film career, James articulates his thoughts about “Underworld: Blood Wars” below.

On Returning To Underworld:

It was very interesting going back to a world where you’ve already explored, but reintroducing yourself, and to a whole bunch of new characters, and a whole new concept. I mean there’s a new director on board, Anna Foerster, and obviously she wanted to kind of change it up. The last time you saw those characters it was Underworld Awakening, and it was – it was almost quite a – a chrome aesthetic to it. I think Anna wanted to take it back to kind of the first Underworld films, which were a bit dirtier, and grittier, and a little bit more medieval in essence.”

On David’s Relationship With Selene:

Selene and David’s relationship has – has definitely evolved. Before, I think, you know, he was a young lad, kind of following shyly in her footsteps, I’m sure. Now I think he’s more of a man, and there – there’s a little bit more quality there. They also now they – they’ve known each other from another – from another narrative from another film, so there’s a friendship there too.”

On the new villain Marius:

Now there is a new war, and there’s a new bad guy, and his name is Marius. And Marius is a powerful and enigmatic leader, and he wants to take Selene down specifically for the power of her blood.”

On His Character, David:

He’s a less traditional vampire. He doesn’t believe in some of the old ways. He believes in kind of disbanding, even connecting with the humans. He believes in de – democracy, I guess. And he – but he’s also a bit of a rebel, and through the film he kind of discovers a little bit more about his origins, and where he came from, and thus what he has to lose.”

James has starred as Four in Lionsgate’s hit sci-fi films “Divergent,” “Insurgent” and “Allegiant,” opposite Shailene Woodley, and will be seen in the TV movie “The Divergent Series: Ascendant” in 2017.

On the small screen, James played the memorable and pivotal role of Mr. Kemal Pamuk in the first season of the acclaimed series Downton Abbey.

Opening across the Philippines on December 02, “Underworld: Blood Wars” is distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International.
