Unwinding after a particularly grueling day at work is made easier with a nightcap in hand and your preferred late night TV program, The Tonight Show.
Surprisingly, the franchise is the world’s longest-running talk show, airing way back in 1954. Throughout the years, it brought quality entertainment to our households with unintentionally amusing headlines, mundane celebrity tweets and Ridiculously Expensive Sketches. With SNL alum Jimmy Fallon as its host, the franchise became more musical in theme and revolved around your favorite celebrities playing wacky games such as:
1. Kid Theater with Channing Tatum
The skit had a simple premise: Jimmy Fallon and guest actor Channing Tatum would recreate scenes from the new Magic Mike movie. And by “Magic Mike”, they asked elementary-level kids to write scripts based on that title alone. With lines like “I’m like regular Mike, except magic!” and a scene that involves a magical bird, this sketch will certainly induce fits of laughter.
2. Lip Sync Battle with Emma Stone
Unless you’re neighbors with Patrick Star, then you would already know about this segment. Fallon challenges his guests to one-up him in lip syncing songs like Styx’s Mr. Roboto and DJ Khaled’s All I Do is Win. This segment spawned countless views online because it’s a chance to see a wildly different side of our idols. It even has its own spin-off program hosted by LL Cool J and has featured celebrities like Anne Hathaway, Dwayne Johnson and Terry Crews.
3. Lip Flip with Sofia Vergara
Have you ever wondered what Fallon would look like if he suddenly switched facial features with an actress? Say, Sofia Vergara of Modern Family fame? Well, look no further because this skit has the answer! Surely inspired by a hallucinogenic trip gone wrong, this skit allows celebrities to “interview” themselves. Here, Jimmy tried to imitate Sofia’s thick Colombian accent and hearty laugh while she teased him as Justin Timberlake’s boyfriend.
4. Box of Lies with Jennifer Lawrence
Fallon and his guests try to outdo each other with staredowns and clever lies. J.Law’s quirky brand of humor shines as she references the 2009 film Inglorious Basterds (“Nein!”) and improvises on the spot. We also witness their witty banter and en pointe poker faces.
5. Intense Staredown with Robert Downey Jr.
Speaking of staredowns, here’s one with Iron Man himself. You will definitely crack yourself up as the two dress up in Mortal Kombat attire and attempt to sit perfectly still while a voiceover proclaims that Domino’s stuffed-crust pizza is an essential element of the universe.
And the crazy antics just keep on coming! The news of Fallon’s extended contract with NBC means he will host The Tonight Show until 2021.
Until then, you can catch the multi-talented comic on The Tonight Show every Tuesday to Saturday via satellite at 2PM, with a prime time telecast at 10PM, only on CT!
CT is available on Cignal ch. 22; Sky Cable ch. 138; Cable Link ch. 40; Destiny Cable Digital ch.138.
