7 months after his military enlistment into the Republic of Korea Army Band, SHINee’s main dancer Lee Taemin will be completing his military service under Supplementary Service. Reasons for Taemin’s transfer from the Military Band to the Supplementary Service were detailed in SM Entertainment’s announcement:
“Due to the symptoms of depression and anxiety that Taemin has been suffering from before [his enlistment], he continued to receive treatment and therapy even while carrying out his service. However, because his symptoms recently worsened, the military determined that it had become impossible for him to continue his military life and treatment at the same time, and he was accordingly transferred to supplementary service.
Therefore, Taemin plans to fulfill his military duty as a public service worker.”
Shawols showered all of their concerns towards Taemin with comments on social media, hoping that his treatment will go well and that he’ll receive support from everyone around him. Taemin’s name has been trending on Twitter for hours on end due to this news. Fans also asked others to be considerate when talking about Taemin’s condition.

so according to this notice, taemin will serve the rest of his military service as a social worker (no longer as a member of the military band). this is also due to the fact that he’s been receiving counseling for depression and panic disorder.
i seriously hope he’s okay https://t.co/Emj6w0BeNB

At least as a public service worker Taemin will be able to go home when finishing his work.

this transfer means that taemin gets to go home after works so at least he'll be able to see kkoongie and be in touch with friends and family more easily

glad that they transferred taemin and that there at least is somewhat of a treatment plan available for him and i really hope the counseling helps him but i really feel like there should be some temporary medical leave option for anyone struggling that severely

“Taemin always works hard. You can see fire in his eyes. That’s all good with work, but sometimes I worry you might get stressed. I wanna say not as another member, but as your old friend, I wish you the best and hope that you recharge to do what you like.”

As soon as news about SHINee’s Taemin were released, testimonies from people who had seen Taemin during his military life had surfaced, saying that despite him drinking his medicines for depression and waking up to nightmares at night, he still showed a bright disposition in front of his peers. Another one said that he [Taemin] “still kept smiling…and was a good brother who took care of others and cheered on everyone to be strong.”
