Awards show season means another World War, but in the K-Pop world

November 09th, 2021

World War 3 is about to happen.

No, not in the real real world, but in the K-Pop world. The reason? Awards show season is coming real soon.

On November 3rd, the 2021 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA, for short) finally announced the nominees for this year’s awards ceremony, which will take place on December 11, 2021 at 6 P.M. KST. Some significant changes have been made to the criteria in determining the winner of the ‘Artist of the Year’, ‘Song of the Year’, and ‘Album of the Year’, where fan votes were usually considered part of the criteria.

However, the categories ‘Worldwide Icon of the Year’ and ‘Worldwide Fans’ Choice Top 10’ will only be based on fan votes. (Remember when NCT’s Jaehyun just winked last year and brought in almost 3 million votes at the last minute? Yeah, same here.)

K-Pop stans have been waiting for the list of nominees for a while now, and were quick to share their sentiments and feelings towards the list on social media. Some were happy to see their favorites on the list, while some felt like other deserving artists and genres were snubbed by the committee (*cough* EXO *cough* Taemin *cough* Sunmi* *cough* K R&B).

Just wait for K-Pop stan Twitter to fall into chaos on December 11, 2021. It’s the best day to see the world end (lmao jk ½). Awards show season in the K-Pop world (as a 3rd party watcher) just feels like any other day.

Though, vote for those deserving and your faves, okay?
