You never walk alone: 7 BTS tracks to redeem even your darkest days

Music has always been a way to accompany us with our mood. Music is also seen as a therapy to help people out in their respective difficult moments.

BTS, a South Korean pop group, is breaking records worldwide for their powerful lyricism and diverse musicality. With their latest English track ‘Permission to Dance’, BTS is consistent in telling stories of hope.

BTS does not shy away from addressing social concerns and mental health using their platform. They make genuine songs to emphasize people’s circumstances and be a vessel in their healing.

Let’s take a look at seven BTS songs to listen to when you are going through struggles and difficulties.

1. Spring Day

When you miss someone you love, you might want to listen to a fan-favorite track, ‘Spring Day’. Regardless of the ambiguous interpretation that this song holds, ‘Spring Day’ has helped people cope with the grief and longing of someone who was lost.

‘Spring Day’ is one of the tracks in their 2017 album ‘You Never Walk Alone’. It is also the longest-charting song in ‘Melon’ as of date.

“How long do I have to wait
How many nights do I have to pass
To see you?
To meet you?”

“Pass the end of winter’s cold
Until the spring day comes again
Until the flowers bloom again
Please stay, please stay there a little longer”

2. Whalien 52

Have you ever heard of the 52-hertz whale? In 2015, BTS released the track ‘Whalien 52’ inspired by a whale that sang at a frequency of 52 Hertz, a decibel far higher than any regular whale could ever hear.

The lonely whale continues to sing despite not being heard or understood by others. Just like the lonely whale, this track encourages you to keep on using your voice even when you don’t think you’re being heard or understood.

“Lonely lonely lonely whale
Like this, try calling once again
Until this song that doesn’t have a response
Reaches tomorrow?”

3. Answer: Love Myself

From the title itself, we are not going to deny that this track is about self-love. This song is both emotional and uplifting, delivering a message about the difficulties of loving and embracing oneself, as well as the importance that it entails.

‘Answer: Love Myself ‘is featured on the album ‘Love Yourself: Answer’ from 2018.

“You’ve shown me I have reasons
I should love myself
I’ll answer with my breath, my path

The me of yesterday, the me of today, the me of tomorrow
(I’m learning how to love myself)
With no exceptions, it’s all me”

4. 00:00 (Zero O’Clock)

Every 00:00, the time between yesterday and today, a new day is about to begin. This track tells you that the clock resets to a whole new day, bringing hope and joy amidst the pressure and disappointments of yesterday.

‘00:00 (Zero O’Clock)’ is the 13th track of the album ‘MAP OF THE SOUL: 7, sung by Jin, Jimin, V, and Jungkook.

“And you’re gonna be happy
And you’re gonna be happy
Like that snow that just settled down
Let’s breathe like the first time

And you’re gonna be happy
And you’re gonna be happy
Turn this all around
When everything is new, Zero o’clock”

5. Paradise

You may sometimes feel that everyone has a dream and is busy racing towards their future. If you’re feeling worried and overwhelmed by your own expectations and opinions of the people around you, you may want to check out the song ‘Paradise’.

“Stop runnin’ for nothin’ my friend
Now stop that foolish race
Stop runnin’ for nothin’ my friend
Every breath you exhale is already in the paradise

Stop runnin’ for nothin’ my friend
You don’t have to have a dream that everyone dreams
Stop runnin’ for nothin’ my friend
All languages that make you are already in the paradise”

6. 2! 3!

‘2! 3!’ is a track that talks about sharing hardships with one another while wishing for better days ahead. You may not be able to change your past, but you can start forgetting your sad memories. Counting 1, 2, 3 signifies hope for our future.

“It’s okay come on when I say one two three forget it
Erase all sad memories, hold my hand and smile”

“1, 2, 3
Hoping that everything will change
For a better day
Because we are together”

7. Magic Shop

‘Magic Shop’ is a track about opening and entering the door of your heart so you can exchange your worries, fears, and insecurities for happiness and self-acceptance.

‘Magic Shop’ is the 7th track of the album ‘Love Yourself: Tear’ and was inspired by Dr. James Doty’s autobiography ‘Into the Magic Shop: A Neurosurgeon’s Quest to Discover the Mysteries of the Brain and the Secrets of the Heart.’

“On a day you hate being yourself
On a day you want to disappear forever
Let’s build a door in your heart
When you open the door and enter, this place will await you
It’s okay to believe the Magic Shop that will comfort you”

These 7 BTS tracks may not be the literal remedy for your terrible days, but they might help you get back on your feet to start again.

Aside from their music, this K-pop boy band also puts in the work behind the scenes to promote self-love and mental health.

BTS previously joined hands with UNICEF through their campaign LOVE MYSELF in pursuit of love to provide a better place for all. In September 2018, BTS was invited to address the United Nations in the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly where they talked about self-love and acceptance.

“I’m Kim Namjoon, RM of BTS. I’m a hip-hop idol and an artist from a small town in Korea. Like most people, I made many mistakes in my life,” RM said.

He continues, “I have many faults and I have many fears, but I am going to embrace myself as hard as I can, and I’m starting to love myself, little by little. What is your name? Speak Yourself.”

If you are struggling, always remember that someone is there for you. Someone will love you until the end of days.
