Check out Zachary Levi’s new cinematic costume in ‘Shazam: Fury of the Gods’

After the success of the 2019 DC action-comedy movie Shazam, comes the sequel called “Shazam: Fury of the Gods”, slated to be released in 2023. With its filming now in progress, photos of Zachary Levi’s new and improved look leaked on Twitter last June 4.

The costume seems to be less “source material”-accurate than in the first movie, but does that mean it’s worse?

In these pictures, Levi is seen without the iconic white short cape, but now dons a sleeker lightning bolt emblem on his chest.

Director David F. Sandberg, most likely aware of the new costume leaks, did not skip a beat and provided fans with a cinematic–albeit shadowy–sneak peek of Shazam’s costume in the upcoming sequel. The teaser clearly focuses on some subtle changes in the costume: New boots, new arm cuffs and a longer cape.

Fortunately, another set of leaked costume pictures made rounds on the internet last June 6, featuring a low-quality photo of Levi with the white cape, notably without a hood like in the first movie.

The costume has many differences from its original counterpart, with a longer cape similar to that of Superman, a slimmer lighting bolt emblem, and a less bulky and goofy-looking frame.  We can only hope that these costume changes make sense story-wise, to add to the charm of the movie and the character of Billy.

It certainly looks like the new costume has become more similar to the costumes of the DC Cinematic Universe in that they are not exactly accurate to the comics but are translated well cinematically. Let’s hope to get an official look at the costume in the film which will be released in theaters two years from now.
