Following the release of “Cappuccino (Can I Help You?)” Last March, Indonesian artists / producers HNATA and Justin picked up the pace uptown with their second single off their EP: “Lauren” (Slated for June 2021) titled “Roller Coaster”, slated for May 28th 2021.
While Cappuccino had the similar roots to an alternative / r&b soul / pop vibe, Roller Coaster is more light hearted and emulates pop / R&B songs from the 2010s, reminiscent of artists such as early Justin Bieber and early Jay Park. Narratively, the song tells the story of how relationships could get turbulent from time to time when nothing is set in stone. It paints the confident character we heard from “Cappuccino” to be in more of an insecure, uncertain light throughout his moves on Lauren.
This song also features a rising Indonesian rapper / singer in Basboi. As friends and fans of each other’s works, HNATA thought this would be the perfect time to do a collaboration as the song itself felt like it needed Basboi’s vocals and his abilities in writing quirky English-Indonesian lyrics.
“I feel like with this song it showcases another side of HNATA people are already somewhat familiar with, but at the same time, Justin’s production brings out a different shade of color to what people are expecting.” claims HNATA, regarding the release.
“Lyrically, it also showcases somewhat of an insecurity of the protagonist where we left off with Cappuccino, it’s just a regular thing that us boys also go through whenever we’re trying to make moves on people we are interested in.” he continued.
As mentioned before, “Roller Coaster is a part of a larger project. And that project is “Lauren”, the title of HNATA and Justin’s debut EP is slated for release in June 2021. The EP has a collection of songs that are highly influenced by romcoms and K-dramas. Narratively telling a story of a beautiful barista named Lauren who is seeking adventure and excitement from her mundane day-to-day life.
The upcoming debut EP, Lauren is slated to be released at the end of June 2021 via MFNE.
“Roller Coaster (Feat. Basboi)” is written by HNATA & Basboi, produced and arranged by Justin Adijanto, mixed by Erik Soto (Basboi, BAPAK, Reikko) and mastered by Kwon Nam Woo (DPR Live, BIG Naughty, Taeyeon) at 821 Sound, Seoul, South Korea.
