‘G.I. Joe’ comics to welcome its first Filipino Joe, Multo

“G.I. Joe” comics will be introducing its first-ever Filipino Joe (yes, not Juan) in the form of Nestor Abuba, who has been aptly given the codename Multo.

Multo, which means ghost in Filipino, will be introduced in “G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero” issue #283, which will be released in June.

The said comic’s collector, research specialist and historian Diana Davis, broke the news via Twitter earlier today, May 19, by sharing a glimpse of the new hero.

Multo will be debuting alongside another new Joe named Olivia Baipaj, who goes by the codename Black Hat, a computer hacking specialist, according to Davis.

Filipino cosplayer, hobbyist and comics fan Glenmarc “Flash” Antonio likewise shared the news via his Facebook page earlier today, gaining over 200 reactions and more than 400 shares, as of this writing.

Citing Davis, Antonio shared that the new Filipino Joe is a former Philippine Special Forces member and is “proficient in special ops, jungle warfare, and unarmed combat.”

Aside from being an expert warrior, Multo also turns out to be capable of speaking Tagalog (of course), English, Spanish, French and Malay.

Fans can catch Multo in June on the new issue that also serves as the third part of the “Murder by Assassination” arc. It is being penned by renowned comic writer Larry Hama with art from the esteemed Andrew Griffith.  /ra
