To the lords and ladies who are fond of “Bridgerton”, prepare to bid adieu to Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings as he exits the show and will not appear in the upcoming second season, as announced by Netflix and Shondaland.
This notice comes from Lady Whistledown herself who writes, “Dear Readers, while all eyes turn to Lord Anthony Bridgerton’s quest to find a Viscountess, we bid adieu to Regé-Jean Page, who so triumphantly played the Duke of Hastings,”.
Phoebe Dynevor, who plays as Daphne Bridgerton (now the Duchess of Hastings), will return for the new season to guide her brother Anthony through the upcoming social season and what it has to offer, “more intrigue and romance than my readers may be able to bear,” says Lady Whistledown.
This piece of news may not come as a surprise to the readers of Julia Quinn’s novels. Simon Basset’s storyline mainly appears in the first book of the Bridgerton series, “The Duke and I”, as well as to the actor Regé-Jean Page himself.
Regé-Jean Page sees “Bridgerton” as an anthology, with each book (and season) focusing on one Bridgerton sibling’s love story. On that note, the duke’s dynamic storyline has ended with the birth of Simon and Daphne’s first child, and similarly, Page’s stay in the Regency Era has also reached its conclusion with the end of his contract.
We’ll surely miss the dashing (and devilishly attractive) Duke of Hastings in the upcoming season!
