“The Crown” actor Josh O’Connor made his Filipino fans giddy when he showed them that he’s listening to a classic OPM song, performed by what appears to be a local jazz act.
O’Connor recommended the song “Sa Iyo Ang Araw, Sa Akin Ang Gabi” by Now Batukada to his fans through an Instagram Story earlier today, March 28.
The song was released by the jazz band in 2009, under Villar Records International. Other tracks released by the band include “Dahil Sa Isang Bulaklak”, “Aliw” and “Lambingan.”
The actor, who plays Prince Charles in the acclaimed series, did not state any reason for sharing the track, but that did not stop fans from being excited. O’Connor’s fans cannot help but be proud that the actor recommended the song to others. Some netizens even made some witty remarks about O’Connor’s post.
One @poedarmnrn joked that the actor’s recommendation sparked Filipino’s patriotism anew as he posted a meme about O’Connor recommending the song.

Another @MISSCLAIRFOY quipped that O’Connor and his co-star Claire Foy, who plays young Queen Elizabeth II in “The Crown,” must be secretly Filipinos. They showed Foy sitting in front of a backdrop with the word “petmalu” and a screenshot of O’Connor’s song recommendation.

Now Batukada’s jazzy take of the song was released in 2009 after it was done by Leo Valdez and Carmen Ronda in the 1970s. There was also a 1978 movie under the same title, written and directed by Agustin B. dela Cruz, which starred Ronda and Rhene Imperial.
While the actor’s fans are still in the dark as to why he would choose to listen to this song, it sure does the song good to have this surprising rediscovery. JB
