Lala Vinzon reminds us that every heartbreak is ‘Pansamantala’

Following the release of ‘Rebellious Heart,’ soul-pop singer and songwriter Lala Vinzon bares her heart out with her newest single, ‘Pansamantala’

Released under Island Records Philippines, the song talks about a love that was cut short and never fulfilled, despite best efforts to make the relationship work. Literally translating to temporary, ‘Pansamantala’ speaks of how heart-wrenching it is to see the love between two individuals end.

“We keep expecting things from the people we love and we tend to get hurt because of that,” Lala shares. “And then we realize that we are not enough for them and it’s no one’s fault. None of us are easy to be with. We are not perfect.”

Beyond romantic heartache

However, there is more to the song than a broken heart. Lala herself relates this song to other aspects of her life as well.

“Heartbreaks do not only apply in love but also in work, fame, reputation and happiness,” she explains. “Everything can be temporary. Eventually, your environment and surroundings will change and you should be able to adapt and accept. As they say, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.”

And more than just an exploration of emotions brought about sad circumstances around pain, Lala hopes that listeners find hope from the track.

“We should remember that people cross our lives for a reason, lesson and to fill our growth. Losing someone or something you loved and cared for is a natural process of growth,” she furthers. “But don’t let it stop you from loving and trying again. I hope this song will make you feel that you are not alone.”

Drawn from personal experience

While music producer Gab Tagadtad lent a hand in the process of creating the instrumentals and harmonies, the music and lyrics of the song are definitely inspired by the songwriter’s personal experiences.

“Working in this industry, I try my best to be strong and professional to hide my negative emotions and to not be judged. But writing for me is like a permit to be vulnerable,” she says. “The creative process in making music is to allow myself to feel all these different kinds of powerful emotions during the time of writing it.”

As the new single tackles change and its consequences, ‘Pansamantala’ is seen as a step closer to a new chapter in Lala’s career as a music artist.

“Every artist seeks authenticity and growth. This track talks about my past self as well. Eventually, I will grow and take a different path in terms of career, music and perspective. So now I’m taking the chance of giving myself time to focus on what I really want and express it freely,” she declares. “I want to grow as an artist and a musician by being myself and [by] not to [being] manipulated by fame, not always [going] with the trend. It might be scary for me to start over again, but it is worth a try.”
