Most students probably have cheated (or at least tried cheating) once in their lives, whether it was in a quiz, a homework, project, or an exam. We all have tried to cheat our way out of a difficult situation–or in this case, a difficult exam. Doing it once, is forgivable. Repeating it several times will surely have consequences because your actions will eventually catch up to you.
Asia’s hit Thai movie Bad Genius, illustrates how the choices of four students finally caught up with them.

Bad Genius is directed by Nattawut Poonpiriya and follows the story of Lynn (Chutimon Chuengcharoensukying), Bank (Chanon Santinatorkul), Pat (Teeradon “James” Supapunpinyo), and Grace (Eisaya Hosuwan), who found themselves committing the most elaborate exam heist that earned them millions.
Two of the actors from the film, Non (Bank) and James (Pat), were here in Manila to promote their movie. During the press conference at Marco Polo Hotel last October 14, they shared some things about the film and about themselves.
On cheating during exams
When they were asked if they have tried cheating before, Non and James admitted that they have. Non said that he tried copying from his classmates during an exam. James, however, was able to do something quite similar to one scene from the film. He exchanged papers with his classmates and had him answer it for him because it was a very difficult exam. The actors were quick to add that they are not doing it anymore and does not encourage anyone to even try it.
On playing another character in the film and their dream roles
Non and James shared that if they were given the chance to play another character in the film, they want to portray Lynn’s character. James want to be as clever as her, while Non want to try to experience the pressure of being a leading character.
Further, the actors also shared their dream roles. Non, who is fond of watching action films, would like to star in a spy movie like Kingsman: The Secret Service (2014). James, on the other hand, would like to do a drama and biography film similar to Steve Jobs (2015).
On what they want their Filipino fans to get from “Bad Genius”
The actors do not believe that the film will encourage viewers to cheat. Instead, they want them to realize that all our actions have consequences. So if they decide to cheat, or do something bad, they should know that it has consequences.
But most of all, they want everyone to just enjoy watching their film.
True enough, Bad Genius will keep you on the edge of your seat until the end. It will give you a dose of comedy, drama, and thrill rolled into one film.
