Filipinos poke fun at American singer Chappell Roan’s photos for ‘giving Recto energy’

Some Filipinos really don’t know when to stop, no?

American singer-songwriter Chappell Roan is causing a stir among Filipino fans after posting a photo of her barefoot on the streets of New York City.

She posted a series of photos of herself in the streets with the caption, “No shoes, no shirt, no problem!!!”

Filipino social media users and some fans of the singer took to the comments section to point out that the location seems to have a resemblance to an area in Manila.

A user wrote, “Chappell Roan in Divisoria buying new clothes for her next performance.”

Another user wrote, “Chappell Roan in Batang quiapo?”

“Chappell RAON ” a third user wrote, referencing an electronic store located in Manila.

A fourth user wrote, “knee deep in your pedicab seat.”

One user took the opportunity to congratulate the singer on getting noticed by the Filipino community and wrote, “congrats on getting flooded by the filipino community in the comments youve truly made it.”

Born Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, Chappell Roan’s rise to fame began with uploading cover songs on YouTube as a teen. She wrote an original song when she was 16 years old entitled “Die Young” which led her to be discovered and earned her a contract with Atlantic Records. She then released her first EP with the label entitled “School Nights” back in 2017.

Her stage name honors her late grandfather, Dennis Chappell, whose favorite song was “The Strawberry Roan” by Marty Robbins.

After being dropped from her label, the singer-songwriter continued her music career as an independent artist.

With her major appearances on late-night TV and Coachella, she signed a contract with Nigro’s Amusement Records, an imprint under Island Records, back in May 2023. She told Grammy that she made the decision to end her journey as an independent artist and signed with a label because the production for her debut album “got too big to be independent anymore.”

Roan gained popularity for her songs such as “HOT TO GO!,” “Red Wine Supernova,” and “Good Luck, Babe!” to name a few.
