CancelledtGPT ignites conversations on Cancel Culture

CancelledtGPT, an event that aimed to dissect cancel culture’s impact across industries, was held last May 4, 2024. Organized by the Marketing Management class of 2024, 2nd semester, the event brought together 200 physical attendees and numerous online viewers to the Thomas Aquinas Research Center Auditorium wherein several notable and prolific speakers were invited to share their insights and experiences.

Among the speakers was Ms. Regina R. Asa, a seasoned professional in the Filipino food service industry. With a career spanning two decades, Asa’s expertise in marketing and operations provided invaluable insights into navigating the challenges posed by cancel culture. Her journey from Shakey’s Philippines to Kenny Rogers Roasters Philippines showcased adaptability and leadership qualities, demonstrating firsthand the resilience necessary in today’s digital landscape.

Another notable speaker was Ms. Maria Chele D. Mendoza, whose personal journey with cancel culture began long before the rise of social media. Mendoza’s resilience in the face of cancellation resonated with attendees, as she shared her mantra, “We will get canceled at least once in our life but the best way to go through it is to either A) Apologize or B) Ride through it and endure it.” Her diverse career trajectory, from Disc Jockey to TV News producer to Public Relations, highlighted the importance of perseverance in the face of adversity.

Mr. James Deakin, an automotive journalist and opinion columnist, offered a unique perspective on the intersection of cancel culture and the automotive industry. As a trusted voice in his field, Deakin’s insights shed light on the challenges and opportunities presented by online scrutiny. His multifaceted career, spanning journalism, events hosting, and road safety advocacy, underscored the complexities of navigating cancel culture in today’s digital age.

Rounding out the lineup was Dimples Romana, a remarkable woman whose diverse career and personal journey embody positivity and empowerment. Romana’s accomplishments as an actress, author, and television host, coupled with her advocacy for an authentic and positive community in the digital sphere, made her a fitting addition to the panel. Her insights on navigating social media and cancel culture resonated deeply with attendees, exploring the potential of these modern dynamics for social transformation.

The organizers were able to inject fresh perspectives into the dialogue, demonstrating their commitment to fostering meaningful conversations on societal issues, especially on cancel culture. Their initiative in organizing CancelledtGPT highlighted the importance of engaging with cancel culture in an informed, constructive, and open-minded manner, that sets a precedent for future discussions on the topic.

Attendees left with a deeper understanding of cancel culture’s implications and the importance of resilience and authenticity in navigating online criticism. CancelledtGPT served as a platform for thought-provoking discussions, highlighting the potential for social transformation amidst the choppy waters of cancel culture. As society continuously evolves, along with the technological advances in this day and age, events like CancelledtGPT play a pivotal role in fostering informed dialogue and empowering individuals to navigate the digital landscape with confidence.
