Makeup brand removes TikTok influencer after backlash from ‘face-shaming’ SB19’s Stell

Stella Salle became a TikTok star for impersonating the way drunk people speak. Because of her hilarious personality, she garnered a significant following and won the affection of many on social media. This eventually led to Colourette Cosmetics appointing her as one of their brand ambassadors, alongside Sassa Gurl and other members of the LGBTQ+ community. This local makeup brand is known to champion diversity, as their advocacy is to make its users feel empowered, confident, and beautiful in all ways, always.

Just recently, however, Stella Salle reposted the artist’s photos and wrote, “panget [ugly],” in the caption. Many A’TINs (SB19’s fandom name) were outraged and demanded an apology from the content creator.

The widespread criticism, not only from fans but also from numerous social media users who found the post offensive, has caught the attention of Colourette’s founder, Nina Ellaine. In response, the company released a statement announcing the termination of their endorsement ties with Stella Salle. This decision was made because her actions contradicted the values upheld by the cosmetic brand.

According to the statement from the CEO, “Having faced public scrutiny for my appearance, I have always championed self-love and empowerment. Due to recent events with one of our ambassadors, Colourette takes a firm stand against bullying and shaming, and we are disengaging from Stella.”

After facing backlash for her unsolicited comments and being called out by fans and other social media users, Stella Salle released an apology letter, which she posted on her official TikTok account.

However, many argue that the damage has already been done. The inappropriate post from the influencer is particularly troubling given that she claims to be a victim of cyberbullying and face-shaming herself.

Others have also pointed out that Stella Salle is considered an influential figure, especially since she represents a brand and is expected to uphold its values. Therefore, she should have been more cautious about the statements she posts on social media platforms.

On the other hand, one social media user criticized the brand for abruptly removing the influencer as an ambassador. In a viral tweet, he wrote, “I don’t get it. You get an ambassador or ambassadress without you guys having to background check? We all know that stella is kanal humor, straightforward and opinionated towards things.”

This controversy serves as a reminder to all social media influencers (and even users) to exercise extra caution in their actions, particularly in this day and age, where words can have far-reaching consequences.
