Naevis to debut as SM Entertainment’s first-ever virtual idol reactions

With the K-Pop industry gradually embracing the concept of the metaverse, the upcoming debut of SM Entertainment’s first virtual idol is now in the works. Everyone knows who she is, as she’s been mentioned quite a few times in aespa’s songs.

Yes, we’re talking about (our mother) Naevis.

This is in part of SM Entertainment and Kakao Entertainment’s agreement, where the two companies will produce new K-Pop artists and music and use the IP of SM Entertainment to develop new content for global consumption.

According to the South Korean IT industry last October 8, 2023, Kakao Entertainment’s virtual girl group MAVE: is set to make a comeback later this year, and SM Entertainment is debuting Naevis in the first quarter of 2024.

Having debuted in January 2023 with the song “PANDORA,” MAVE: was created by combining the “entertainment capabilities” of Kakao Ent. and the metaverse tech of Metaverse Entertainment. The creation of virtual idols, according to Chief Technology Officer Kang Sung-ku of Metaverse Entertainment in an interview with Spanish news outlet El País, has the same amount of planning and production as with real groups. This includes planning, album and music video production, choreography, and marketing.

Naevis, who had been introduced in aespa’s lore and group concept as a “guide,” was created by SM Entertainment’s Virtual Artist/IP Production Center.

K-Pop fans and MYs were surprised by this news, and of course, found some way to clown the situation.

Knowing how big SM Entertainment gives to the production quality of their artists, it’s no doubt that they’ll do the same for their first virtual idol. (Definitely not adding the fact that aespa kinda stole Naevis’ debut song but whatever).
