Known for their hit songs, âPwede Ba,â and âFallen,â Filipino rock band, Lola Amour, brings us another song that just brings us the feels!
âRaining in Manilaâ has been all around TikTokâs For You Page for the past couple of days. Users were quick to start a trend using the bandâs song. Some connected it to their regrets about not studying college in Manila while others used it for a Manila boy and a province girl alternative universe (AU) story. With all these concepts, fans wondered what the real story behind âRaining in Manila,â could be.
Lola Amourâs lead vocal and guitar, Pio Dumayas, went to TikTok to give a few points on what the song is about.
âCause itâs been raining in Manila, hindi ka ba nilalamig?
Mahirap bang mag isang nanginginig?â
Dumayas shares that this part talks about the person who left, but continues to worry about the person left behind.
âPaumanhin at mukhang hindi ko masasabayan ang iyong yapak
sa pag-ngiti, sa pag-iyak, sa paglipad at pagbagsak ng araw-araw.â
Admittedly, the lines mentioned were just a fancy way of apologizing for not being able to be around the other personâs achievements and be around every day.
âSo Iâll be waiting in Manila kahit âdi ka na babalik.â
He finishes the video with a lyric that serves as a reminder that if ever the person comes back, there is someone and something waiting back homeâthe people and the memories.
But when a fan joked that the âRaining in Manila,â is a relapse song, Dumayas revealed the real story behind it. It turns out that the song has a more personal meaning as it is about his friends who left the country in pursuit of a better life in another country. The song goes beyond just missing them but also wishes them happiness and the hopes that they are doing well despite no longer staying in touch as before (aww!).

No matter what your reason is for liking the song, âRaining in Manila,â is surely one that I will be playing on repeat in the next few days.
