Who knew we’d get a Bob Ross-inspired film this year?

Owen Wilson channels his inner Bob Ross in the newly released “Paint” trailer. With his perm and soft voice, he surely looks like the iconic host of “The Joy of Painting” TV program.

On February 8, IFC released the official trailer of its upcoming comedy film “Paint” starring Wilson. In the clip, the “Night at the Museum” actor dons a head of curls and an outfit in sentimental palette, giving off the same energy as the late PBS personality.

Bob Ross established his name in the art industry through his show, “The Joy of Painting,” an instructional TV show that aired from 1983 to 1994 on PBS in the U.S., CBC in Canada, and other channels in Europe and Latin America, which later on became wildly famous after Netflix picked it up for streaming. He died in 1995 at the age of 52 due to lymphoma.

“Paint” can be deemed as a comical twist on Ross’ legacy. The story revolves around the story of Carl Nargle, a painter and TV show host who has been leading Vermont’s best painting show for nearly 30 years; this is in a way related to real-life painter and host Bob Ross. His craft has produced a huge fan base over the years, particularly among women. However, Nargle starts to question his prominence when his network decides to hire Ambrosia (Ciara Renée), a younger painter with her own show that he sees as a threat to his livelihood and passion.

Paint is written and directed by Brit McAdams and produced by Peter Brant and Sam Maydew. Joining Wilson and Renée in the cast are Wendi McLendon-Covey, Lusia Strus, Lucy Freyer, Michaela Watkins, and Stephen Root, among others. The movie will hit theaters this April.
