The hit series Harry Potter, based on the fantasy novels of British author J.K. Rowling, became a stepping stone in the industry for the actors who played the young wizards. Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Emma Watson (Hermione Granger), and Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) rose to fame by playing their respective iconic roles at a very young age.
However, Grint revealed recently that playing the role of a pure-blooded wizard took a toll on him.
In an interview with Bustle magazine, published online on January 30, the ‘Servant’ and ‘Knock at the Cabin’ actor said playing the red-haired character in the Harry Potter franchise from 11 to 22 years old proved to be difficult and exhausting.
Grint described the act of being involved in the Harry Potter films as ‘quite suffocating’. He also explained that he had a hard time creating a borderline between his real self and his character for more than a decade. The actor seems to occasionallyforget his real identity because he even responds when someone calls him ‘Ron’.
Another struggle that he and his co-actors faced was the year-long process of being Harry Potter’s cast, as they needed to ‘promote the rest of the time’.
While Grint is grateful for his biggest break in the Hollywood industry, he mentioned that he wanted to reflect on everything as the series ended.
“It was an out-of-body experience for a while, but I think we finished at the right time. If we continued, it could’ve gone downhill,” he stated.
For his current acting projects, the former ‘Harry Potter’ star focuses on roles that he sees as ‘something therapeutic.’ He’s now into thriller and horror films such as ‘Servant’, ‘Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities’, and M. Night Shyamalan’s upcoming film, ‘Knock at the Cabin’.
After being popular for his iconic ‘Ron Weasley’, it’s now the right time for Rupert Grint to be recognized in his next roles and series.
