Ever since the quarantine started, people have been trying out new food trends to pass the time. From the ever-popular Dalgona coffee to the latest pancake cereal trend, a lot of people have become a lot riskier when it comes to their food choices. This time around, another food trend is making its rounds online–and it’s called the pizza cereal.
Created by Instagram influencer Valentina Mussi, this new dish makes use of pre-made pizza dough, mozzarella, and tomato sauce. And despite its name, the pizza snack will not be dipped in or submerged in milk.
The recipe for this new food trend was posted on Mussi’s Instagram and it details the dish’s recipe.
“Preheat your oven to 400° F. Roll out the pizza dough and cut little circles with a cookie cutter or knife. Place circles over a baking sheet and add tomato, cheese, and pepperoni. Bake for 8 minutes at 400° or until crispy. Enjoy!!! — use the leftover dough to make more pizza,” she instructed.
In an interview with Insider, Mussi shared that she came up with this idea since most (if not all) “cereal trends” were sweet dishes.
“I have seen so many desserts made into tiny ‘cereal’ versions, but there were no savory options. Everyone loves pizza so I decided to make pizza cereal,” she told the news outlet.
Since she posted the video online, she has gotten over 34,000 likes from online users. However, not all of them were positive as many disagreed with the dish’s name.
One person commented, “What the fuck classifies a cereal? Apparently y’all don’t know” and another said, “Just cuz it’s mini doesn’t mean it’s cereal 🙄”.
Whatever your thoughts may be on this bite-sized pizza snack, one thing’s for sure, this looks incredibly delicious! Excuse us for a moment while we shop for its ingredients…
