Bawal Clan and Owfuck drop ‘Heist,’ their third single off their collaborative album

We’ve heard them out when they talked about societal “sharks” with ‘Pating sa Kadiliman’ and the difficulties of this cold world with ‘Ligaw.’ Now, Bawal Clan and Owfuck are dropping ‘Heist,’ their third single off Ligtas, their highly-anticipated album.

Teaming up for this single are Owfuck’s Astro, Lexus and Paul Cassimir, and Bawal Clan’s Ankhten Brown, Rjay Ty, and Lex Luthoor.

“I wanted to create segments for rappers to highlight their verses at the same time to create the scenario and express the energy of being in the heist,” shares Pope Fiction who still produced the beats for this track.

Plot Twist

Unlike the first two singles, ‘Heist’ is almost a narrative, a story happening within the song. It paints a picture that reflects the title itself: a heist that was planned with strong motivations and executed with a little help of something to take the nervous edge off.

“Astro and Pope [Fiction] started off with the draft for this track with the idea of us walking into a bank, saying what [would] we want to [do] if we were in a heist situation,” explains Rjay Ty.

“When Astro put his initial verse, [it] pretty much took off from there,” Pope Fiction adds. “Yung Bawal added the final touches and Rjay’s hook generally made the track for me. It set the tone.”

The single takes us through a journey that mirrors poverty, but it also goes beyond that.

“Pinapakita ko dito ang halimbawa ng taong madaling matusko. (It gives an example of a person who is tempted easily.)” Astro says.

“I guess it’s all about getting what’s yours regardless of obstacles,” Lex Luthoor furthers. “[It’s being] willing to go the extreme to get what you think you deserve.”

Triple Threat

‘Heist’ is the third and last single released by Bawal Clan and Owfuck as part of their new album, Ligtas.

Each Friday signaled the debut of a new track. ‘Pating Sa Kadiliman,’ released on 17 April 2020, talks about the ominous presence of unknown threats around us: predators and menaces — sharks — that present themselves in different ways, shapes and forms. On the other hand, ‘Ligaw’ was released last 24 April 2020 and highlights how problems do not just make us stronger but more just, how music knows no class or status, and how patience and hardwork is rewarded by strength and wisdom.

Both tracks were recently featured on Spotify’s New Music Fridays and Apple Music’s Local & Regional Releases.
