9TH Sorok Charity Golf Tournament: A swinging success

With the participation of Eighty (80) players, Sorok Uni Foundation held its 9th Sorok Charity Golf Tournament (SCGT) last February 20, 2020 in the North Course of Canlubang Golf and Country Club, Canlubang, Laguna. The foundation holds this annual golf tournament for the benefit of forgotten neighbors: Persons Affected with Leprosy, Homeless Urban Poor in Manila, and Underprivileged Filipino children. This year, with the support from Fifty-nine (59) sponsoring companies and individuals through the 9th SCGT, Sorok Uni Foundation will also be providing rehabilitation programs to families displaced by the Taal Volcano Eruption.

The day started with the welcome and registration of players at the lobby of Canlubang Golf and Country Club. Breakfast was served early at the dining hall and by 8:00AM, all the players were gathered outside for a group photo. Afterwards, the players then go with their flight to their assigned hole to await the shotgun tee-off.

Once the participants finished playing, they were welcomed to the dining hall with a lunch buffet. The awarding program started around 2:00PM where the lucky players won various gadgets and appliances through raffle draws. Winners of the Golf Tournament received their trophies on stage along with loot bags from MX3, one of the sponsors of the event.

“I think Canlubang [Golf & Country Club] is also one of the serious victims of ash fall.” Said Dr. Jae J. Jang, founder and chairman of Sorok Uni Foundation. “That is our intention, even if the condition of the fairway is not so good. Even though a lot of people say that Taal Volcano [eruption] is tapos na. Sorok Uni Foundation will continue to help the victims through this kind of event.”

Dr. Jang ended the program with a message of gratitude to the participants, players and sponsors who continuously support the foundation in its activities in helping the Philippines’ forgotten neighbors.

Sorok Uni Foundation, Inc. is a humanitarian organization working for Persons affected with Leprosy, Homeless Urban poor, Underprivileged Filipino children. The beneficiaries of the foundation are mostly people whom we see every day but we tend to neglect and avoid due to their lowly and miserable conditions, our neighbors whom we tend to forget. The foundation’s mission is to empower our forgotten neighbors to let them rebuild their lives again and become self-sufficient.
